This is how the nurses we work with do an alcohol home detox:
- You must have a supervisor. That is a family member or a loved one who can be with you during your alcohol home detox. (The medicine we prescribe is a sedative, and we cannot have you falling over banging your head etc, and no one is there to help you or call for assistance.) You are NOT put to sleep!
- We will get one of the detox nurses to give you a call and assess you over the telephone to make sure it is safe for you to do a alcohol home detox.
- If all is ok, one of the detox nurses will call you, and your supervisor, normally the same day.
- They will explain how everything works, and what you need to do. They will also send your medication at this point.
- Now the support starts: The detox nurses will call you a minimum of 4 times a day during medication times to make sure everything is going to plan. Normally 8 or 9 times!
- You will be given a 24 helping phone number back to our nurses, so at no point are you on your own.
This alcohol home detox has proven to be a massive success, with lots of clients being detox each month. I can honestly say, we have never had a single complaint about the alcohol home detox programme, and they have an extremely high success rate.
